THE

LEGENDARY ANGLER PROGRAM

Embrace this fishing challenge with me! The Legendary Angler program was developed as a way for anglers to gauge their success as a fishing enthusiast by accumulating points through catching fish of certain species and of certain sizes. The program can be accessed by any type of angler but is made with the fly fisher especially in mind as the species earning the most points are those which are most frequently sought after while fly fishing. This is why there is a heavy emphasis on trout and other salmonids but a lesser focus on other gamefish such as bass or pike, although some points are reserved for these often overlooked species. Despite the blatant fly fishing focus of this challenge, I still wholeheartedly would welcome any angler catching these fish under any method of their choosing.

If you are thinking this is a pedantic program, you are probably right, but if you are someone like myself who enjoys tracking their progress in the pursuit of mastering a hobby then this program may be for you. There are a total of 100 points, the amount of which an individual has will earn them the classifications which are detailed below. For a full breakdown of how each point is obtained please visit the Point Distribution page on this website.

Ranking System

  • Amateur angler: 1-10 points

  • Intermediate angler: 11-30 points

  • Refined angler: 31-50 points

  • Seasoned angler: 51-70 points

  • Expert angler: 71-90 points

  • Ultimate angler: 91-98 points

  • Legendary angler: 99-100 points

In order to earn points, a picture of your catch should be sent to the email thelegendaryangler@gmail.com. When submitting a picture of your fish, you can either show the size of the fish through a tape measured length or show it with some object that would provide some sense of scale of how big the fish is and the length can be estimated (I won’t be a stickler on this, I promise). For the points relating to catching a certain number of fish, a single picture of one catch would suffice and the honor system can be used.

My goal is to have a page on this website of different tiers, showcasing members who have 25+ points, 50+ points, 75+ points and so forth that I will do my best at keeping updated.

Keep in mind anglers wanting to participate in this challenge must start from a clean slate regardless of what fish were caught in the past, meaning all pictures of catches must have been taken after May 1st, 2024.

One last thing to mention, once you reach certain “milestones”, such as catching a 20 inch trout or earning all the points available for a certain species/family of fish, you have the option of getting “trophy” sent from me in the form of a 3D printed bust of the type of fish you earned with a plaque on it honoring your achievement. I would just ask for the shipping and handling of it before sending it to you, although a small tip may be appreciated.

Good luck and happy fishing!
